The Kamloops Blazers are teasing a “special announcement” ahead of tomorrow night’s Game 5 of the Western Conference championship.
The organization says there will be special guests on hand to deliver the news ahead of the puck drop, which is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The Blazers aren’t confirming any other details, but they’ve gone through the process to try to clinch the 2023 Memorial Cup next May or June.
Decisions regarding the host of the Memorial Cup are now made by the Canadian Hockey League.
Last month, Blazers majority owner Tom Gaglardi said hosts for the 2023 Memorial Cup could be announced “in a matter of weeks.”
“The city of Kamloops is committed and so far the city has been fantastic,” Gaglardi said during a Blazers show on Radio NL. “They’re holding their chops saying how badly they want to see the Memorial Cup come back.
“Everyone in the organization is keeping their fingers and toes crossed that we win this game and we will stay that way. The conversations are productive. They are positive so we are hoping for a great result.
The Kamloops Blazers last hosted and won the Memorial Cup in 1995 – their third title in four seasons.
As for Friday’s game, the Blazers host the Seattle Thunderbirds in the Western Conference championship, with the series tied at 2-2.
