This ends a run of four consecutive victories for the Manx team
The Isle of Man men’s cricket team fell short of their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Europe Sub-Region qualifying final today (July 19) after being beaten by a strong Italian team.
The Italians cruised to victory at the Kerava National Cricket Ground in Finland by seven wickets in a final score of 102-3 from 10.5 overs after the Manse side made it 101-8 to beat after the full 20 overs .
It comes after the Isle of Man side secured four straight wins in the qualifying campaign so far this afternoon.
The Island side were the first to beat with Edward Beard and Nathan Knights hitting a combined 20 points before both fell as Italy’s Harry John Manenti started with a strong display of bowling.
George Burrows and Carl Hartmann then picked up the pace as they racked up 20 and 30 runs respectively, but after that the wickets continued to fall, with the next five batsmen earning 21 runs between them.
Add to that total an extra nine points allowed, meaning the Isle of Man finished past the 20 points on 101-8.
Italy were off at bat and put in an impressive performance with 29 runs from Justin Mosca and 16 runs from Joy Perera before the two were caught by Nathan Knights and Edward Beard respectively.
Anthony Joseph Mosca had 10 runs before being caught by Carl Hartmann before the best display at bat came from Marcus Campopiano who had 35 unscored runs.
That, combined with eight no-outs from Gian Piero Meade as well as four extra runs allowed, took Italy’s tally to 102-3 to win the contest.
