PHILADELPHIA’s award-winning radio icon GLENN KALINA has announced his retirement and will hang up his headphones this FRIDAY (11/5), as he leaves his morning show on AUDCY Classic Hits WOGL (98.1 OGL) after 51 years behind the microphone.

His road began while attending college in SCRANTON, PA in 1970, and a stint in WICK. He arrived in PHILADELPHIA in 1978 during the WIZZARD 100 era, changing to AM 610 WIP. It first landed on frequency 98.1 in the post-disco FASCINATING PACE era. That would change in 1981, when MIKE JOSEPH installed the HOT HITS format, and as a Top 40, WCAU-F exploded. KALINA also exploded, both as a personality of the air “Hot Shot” and as the general manager of the station. When the change was made to Classic Hits and WOGL calls, GLENN was instrumental in the change and one of the first jocks of this station.

He would join the crosstown WIOQ (Q102), moving to PD and eventually OM. Not done at PHILLY, he was asked to sign on a new station, which became WLCE (ALICE 104.5), where he did the mornings, then he switched to WMWX. Other stops included stops at SIRIUS and WJRZ at JERSEY SHORE, before returning to WOGL as the current morning host.

His resume also includes a position as an editor for KAL RUDMAN at the legendary FRIDAY MORNING QUARTERBACK (FMQB) in CHERRY HILL, NJ.

KALINA told ALL ACCESS: “I am filled with gratitude for the opportunities I have been given in PHILADELPHIA and in awe of some of the talents I have had the privilege of working with over the years. Truly blessed! I love PHILADELPHIA and I will miss the interaction and fun with the listeners and stay active in the community! Thanks to the management of AUDACY for allowing me to sign on 98.1 WOGL.

TIM HERBSTER, Brand Manager / Director / Music Programming, AUDACY / PHILADELPHIA, said: “WOGL is a franchise of PHILADELPHIA and GLENN KALINA is a player in the franchise. 35 years at PHILADELPHIA radio, that’s quite a feat! PHILLY was lucky to have GLENN, especially waking up with him on WOGL for the past few years.

Not stopping completely, KALINA will continue as a much requested voice actor.
